What did you learn about yourself and how you work with a team? How would you describe your leadership style?
Through explore, I learned how to always act positive and cooperative as a group. Acting positive was extremely important, extremely on this trip, when the weather was not always in its best conditions. We started off on Monday with a horrible weather, where it was pouring, through most of the hike. Because of this, I was not as confident as I should have been. However, I figured that since I would have to go anyway, I would at least try to have fun. I learned that we should always try out best at anything. Cooperation was another big thing, especially since we were working with other people. These people were not really close friends--in fact, some of them were people that I barely, hardly talked to. But in order to make the experience fun and make everything work out, we had to work as one team. I think I could improve my leadership skills by volunteering more often and participating more eagerly in group activities.

What new grade 8 students did you meet or get to know better who you would not have interacted with at school otherwise? Did anything surprise you working with these new people?
Most of the people in my group, including Brodie, Connor, and Tiffany. These were not the people that I really talked to in school. I got to know Genny better and interact with lots of people. I realized that sometimes, we need to take risk and go for it, even if we are not sure of the outcome. This could refer to group works with people we were not really close with, or even cooking our own meals and sleeping in tents in the middle of dark trees, in the wilderness. It was surprising how everything could work out well when everyone could cooperate.
In what ways could the practice you get on Explore to be self-reliant affect your daily life at school and at home?
